The Beginners Guide to Vidgets

We recently implemented a brand new feature on eZs3, which helps users to fully utilise their embedded media files, and improve the viewer experience.

We called these new feature 'Vidgets'.

In short, a Vidget is the standard media player that you have previously been able to create on eZs3, with a range of useful 'mini-applications' that you can around the outside.

These mini-applications, or widgets, include features based upon successful features of other leading internet sites, including social networking, user generated content and advertising, all aimed at helping you monetize your media to it's full potential.

What Type of Widgets Can I Add?

There are two basic categories of Widget:

  • Generic Widgets - these are standard widgets that you cannot customise. They are available as standard for all Vidgets that you create. Generic Widgets include:
    • Ratings - allow viewers to rate your media files
    • Comments - let viewers add their comments, and start discussions
    • Social Bookmarks - easily link to social bookmarking sites to spread the word
    • Favorites - allow users to record their favorite media files
    • Download File - let users download your media
    • Email to a Friend - allow viewers to email links to your media to their friends and colleagues
    • Embed - let users embed your media on their pages
  • Custom Widgets - these are widgets that you can create and customise based upon your needs. Once created, they are available for all Vidgets you create. Custom Widgets include (click on the relevant link to view the tutorial on how to create each widget):

Creating Vidgets

Once you've finished creating all your custom widgets, you will be able to create new, or edit any existing vidgets by adding any or all widgets you have available, simply by dragging and dropping them into the relevant boxes.
